GUIDED TREKKING IN JASPER NATIONAL PARK
Start your trek in the heart of the Rockies, hiking on the world famous Icefields Parkway. Our Jasper hiking tour enters Jasper National Park, exploring the incredible Columbia Icefield. From Wilcox Pass you get an otherworldly view of Athabasca Glacier, or have the option to take a guided ice walking tour on the ice itself!
We complete the Icefields Parkway with a scenic stop at Peyto Lake, famous for it's insanely blue water, and hike to Bow Falls or high in the alpine of Helen Lake, where you get above the tree line and are surrounded by impressive peaks in all directions.
Next stop on your Banff hiking tour are the crown jewels of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, where you can witness the emerald blue waters made by the dramatic battle between glaciers and mountains. Your friends will think your photos are fake as you show them the shimmering blue water, often thought to be photoshopped. While hiking at Lake Louise, we typically do the Plain of Six Glaciers trail, created by the original Swiss Mountaineers who helped make tourism popular in the Rockies. Hike past impressive cliffs to a valley carved by ice, and enjoy a delicious picnic at a historic teahouse. If you are lucky, you may witness the glacier calving off massive chunks that thunder down the mountainside across the valley from you!
HIKING HOLIDAY IN YOHO NATIONAL PARK
After the Icefields Parkway, we head a bit West to Golden, British Columbia, an up and coming, but still true to it's logging roots mountain town. Here the smell of sawdust and chainsaw gas overpowers the smell of the fudge shops and high end soap stores found in more touristy areas in the Rockies. Life is quiet here, surrounded by towering mountains, rushing rivers and pristine lakes, so we think you will like it here as we spend two nights.
From Golden we are in the perfect place to explore Yoho National Park, where we hike the Iceline Trail. No guided hiking tour in the Rockies is complete without a trip to Yoho National Park and especially up the Yoho River Valley. From the top of the valley you come up close and personal with the second highest waterfall in Canada, crashing over 370 meters down a mountain face and turning mostly to mist before it hits the ground. The scene is unreal and you can actually get right up to the base of the falls, and even underneath them if you dare! The Iceline Trail is one of the highlights of your guided hiking tour in Banff and Lake Louise, with views of the massive waterfall below, and "bugs eye" views of a glacier above you! You can watch the glacier melt and trickle right past the trail you walk on, and can stop to take a sip if you desire!
GLACIER NATIONAL PARK TREKKING
The only wat to match a day hiking in Yoho National Park is to head further West into Glacier National Park. Glacier is not nearly as well known as the other mountain parks and most people have no idea of the secrets it holds. We spend this day on your Banff walking holiday in the wildest and most untamed mountain park in the Rockies hiking along one of the many world class trails. You will notice the vegetation is different in Glacier, as this is the barrier between the dry continental air, and the moist Pacific ocean air. Where they mix, the largest inland temperate rain forest is formed, creating a home for massive Western Red Cedars and featuring air so pure Lichen hangs from the tree branches, like witches hair!
SMALL GROUP HIKING TOURS IN BANFF NATIONAL PARK
Next on the list is the most infamous mountain town in Canada, if not North America. Welcome to Banff, the heart of the Rockies and your base for the last two nights on the tour. By the point you have stayed in the wilderness, a rustic town and now is your chance to live it up in a mountain chic slice of heaven. From here we can strike out on guided hikes around Banff, heading for the best treks in the Rockies!
From Banff we access Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, and also have perfect access to Kananaskis Country, where we head out for the last hike on your tour package. Picklejar Lake is one of our usual hikes, though there are many that are incredible. Further south in the Rockies you will find it remarkably peaceful, with almost zero people on the trail. Expect uninterrupted nature and pristine mountains as far as the eye can see.
After a long day on your Banff hiking holiday, we kick back in Upper Sulphur Mountain Hot Springs, where you can soak in the hot, mineral rich waters that nomads have been healing in for thousands of years.
Rest easy knowing you have experienced the majesty of the Rockies and will always remember this place deep in your hearts.
